Measurements within your "Inch"

Recently I was in the fabric store and I overheard a lady getting some fabric ask the worker exactly how much was 7/8.?
So, I thought that this would be a nice little recap tutorial. I know that when I started sewing, I had to really brush up on my measurements! After a while, everything came back to me though.

Here are your measurements within your inch.
I hope it comes in handy. :)

    4. Evidently, they missed making this simple 50 or 60 year ago. I'm 69, I took Home Ec, I love to sew, but I always made something to the fit to the measurements I knew.
      Thank you sew much

  3. Love this post but, I think maybe the woman was wondering what 7/8 of a yard was. That would be approximately 31 1/2 inches of the fabric.

    1. I thought the same thing. I’ve probably asked a similar question when purchasing upholstery fabric for a project simply because they calculate it on a daily basis. For instance, covering seats on a set of chairs. I would go in with my chair measures in inches with overage for wrapping. Not all fabrics are the same width on a fabric bolt, especially upholstery.

    1. Within 1" there are only 8 increments so it is correct - 1/8"

  10. I can't tell you thank you enough!! Like all of the ladies that commented above me, I'm exactly the same! Too embarrassed to ask. My entire life in school math and I hated each other!! Thank you for posting this! It saves me from having to call my ex-husband every time and ask him, lol

  11. I’m grateful for this info, but as one stated above it might have been 7/8 of a yard . How do you measure that out in inches?
